Federal Career Intern ProgramBACKGROUNDThe Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP) is designed to facilitate the employment of exceptional individuals with diverse professional experiences, academic training and abilities and prepare them for careers which support our mission of public service. This program allows individuals to be appointed to a 2-year internship that provides formal training and developmental assignments as established by the Federal agency. Upon successful completion of the program, the interns may be eligible for non-competitive permanent placement within the agency.
REQUIREMENTSEligibility applies to the following categories:
CONVERSION TO COMPETITIVE SERVICEThose employees who have successfully completed their internships and meet all qualifications, suitability and performance requirements, may be granted permanent placement and converted to competitive service within the agency. Conversions will be effective on the date the 2-year service requirement is met. After conversion, employees will not be required to serve a probationary period and their service under the FCIP appointments will count toward career tenure.
