The Michael Heidelberger Papers

Title:
[Certificate of completion of military training camp at Plattsburgh, NY] pdf (667,534 Bytes)
Description:
In the summer of 1915 Heidelberger took part in a month-long military training camp at Plattsburgh, New York, which produced officers for a prospective volunteer army that would augment the regular army. The camp was organized by leaders of the preparedness movement, a group of career officers and politicians, including former President Theodore Roosevelt and General Leonard Wood, who sought to mobilize American society for what they expected to be the imminent entry of the United States into World War I. Note that Heidelberger received a commendation for his skills as a marksman and that Plattsburgh is misspelled, "Plattsburg" on the certificate.
