The Boston Harbor Islands Partnership, through the Island Alliance, is working to attract investment and support from the private sector to provide necessary strategic and financial resources for the islands.
Island Alliance promotes the use, enjoyment, and awareness of the Boston Harbor Islands national park area by creating vibrant public spaces, facilities, and programming on the islands, raising and managing the public and private resources necessary to do so.

Donations & Fundraising
The Partnership recognizes that the park requires funds from philanthropic sources for park operations and capital improvements, and that the Boston Harbor Island Alliance has been established to raise such funds. Island Alliance raises funds in support of the park’s general management plan and strategic plan. Island Alliance has received a 4-star rating from for effective management.

Many other charitable organizations support the park mission. Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center, a member of the Boston Harbor Islands Partnership, cooperates with National Park Service in delivery of youth programming.

Did You Know?
Shag Rocks in Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area offers roosting sites for cormorants and other seabirds that fish the surrounding waters. Better known in Britain as “shags,” cormorants gave this rocky outcropping its name.
