About the Peer Review Process

The Service will elicit comments from independent scientific reviewers. The scientific peer review will run concurrently with public review which began on January 31, 2006. There are five peer reviewers. Three were selected by outside organizations (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and Sarasota County) and two were selected by the Service. The primary disciplines needed in the review are individuals with expertise in pumas, large carnivores, and/or conservation biology.

About Public Participation

The public will be reviewing and providing comments on the draft recovery plan concurrent with the peer review process. Public review and receipt of comments will take place from January 31 to April 3, 2006 via a notice of availability published in the Federal Register (which was published on January 31, 2006). The public can provide written comments via regular mail, email, and facsimile.
