NRCS Seeks 2008 Farm Bill Conservation Program Comments and Announces New Program Opportunities

There is still time to participate in the 2008 Farm Bill rulemaking process," said Xavier Montoya, Wyoming's state conservationist. "I encourage our farmers, ranchers, and other interested individuals to be a part of the process because their comments will be used to determine the final rules. The programs are designed to assist landowners in their efforts to improve environmental quality through conservation of natural resources on their private lands."

Agricultural Water Enhancement Program (AWEP) proposals due March 2

This is a new program authorized under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) in the 2008 Farm Bill.  A notice of request for proposals was published in the Federal Register.  Proposals should be submitted to the NRCS National Headquarters by March 2, 2009.

Conservation Innovation Grants available

Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) proposals extended to March 20

NRCS requests applications for CIG to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies. Applications must be received by March 20, 2009. Funds will be awarded through a nationwide competitive process and require a minimum of 50 percent match.
