To better model Riparian Reserves as defined in the President's Plan, numerous additional intermittent streams (Class IV) were added to the existing stream layer. These additional Class IV streams were estimated from crenulations in the contour lines on 7.5 minute quads and labelled as "4A". Due to the need to provide a quick estimate of intermittent streams, these additional intermitent streams have not been fully edited to merge with the existing stream layer. The stream layer was created using cartographic feature files (cff) and updating those lines as indicated by District personnel. The Districts provided their stream data from the TRI Aquatic Subsystem at 1:15840. Additonal streams or realignment of the CFF streams were manuscripted at 1:24000, transscribing from the District source maps. The manuscriptes were scanned and the scan files anc CFF's were imported into LTPlus, edited, and attributed with stream class codes. The forest wide stream layer was compiled on 2/1992 after the Districts reviewed the LTPlus files. The addtional Class IV streams were manuscripted by FH personnel and used the Transportation System Updates (TSU, 7.5 minute topologica quads) for base maps. The contour crenulations served to guide the placement of the addtional intermitent streams. The manuscripts were scanned, scan files imported, edited, and attributed in LT4X. A major update is occurring in 1998 that is partially represented in this coverage. Approximately 80% of the streams within the extent of the watersheds on the forest have been edited. Editing includes snapping intersections, extending line work through water bodies, and checking against watersheds. This work is being done in preparation of building routes which may be accomplished sometime in 1999.
