Welcome to the Lewis and Clark National Forest Geographic Information System Data (GIS)
Data Dictionary. The GIS is a computer-based tool for mapping and analyzing objects and events.
It combines the power of a database with the visualization capabilities offered by maps.
The GIS data provides the power to solve complicated problems, experiment with scenarios
and present ideas.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
Some folks have had difficulty downloading data from this site. We have found a couple of reasons for this.
Typically this is caused by your internet settings not being set correctly for downloading this data. Some
FTP servers use a passive ("PASV") mode, while others do not. Changing Internet Explorer's settings may resolve
the issue. If you are having troubles, go to the Tools menu for Internet Explorer. Click on the Advanced
tab. Under the Browsing sub-category, ensure the setting Enable folder view for FTP Sites is enabled
(box is checked). Next scroll to the setting Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility). Try
a different mode by either checking or unchecking the box. Click the Apply button. Click the OK button.
Retry downloading file(s).
The second possible reason for having trouble downloading these files is using a web browser other than Internet
Explorer. Mozilla and its variations have been know to cause trouble downloading these files. So where possible
try to download files from this page using Internet Explorer.
