GE/Housatonic River Site: Introduction

Jump to Report Index

EPA continues its large-scale commitment to addressing contamination in Pittsfield and the Housatonic River, with substantial progress being made in all phases of its comprehensive strategy: remediation, restoration, and redevelopment. Of course, all this work is being done with significant opportunities for public involvement and participation.

An integral part of each of these activities is full-scale Public Participation. EPA continues Citizens Coordinating Council ("CCC") meetings with interested citizens in Pittsfield, as well as its meetings of the Connecticut subcommittee of the CCC. At these meetings, EPA, GE or the citizens themselves provide presentations regarding the Rest of River studies and investigations, ongoing cleanup work, and other topics chosen by the CCC. In addition, EPA holds meetings on specific topics when necessary. (Go to Public Events and Meetings for upcoming meetings) Also, as always, the EPA team is willing to meet with interested members of the public individually.
