Local students enjoy a snowshoeing field trip as part of winter educational programs offered at Kenai National Wildlife Refuge

As spring approaches Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is hanging up its snowshoes for another year.  Winter 2008 brought 793 local students to the Refuge to participate in 2 formal programs:  Wildlife in Winter (grades 4-5) and Winter Ecology (grade 6).  Both programs involved a Refuge staff-led snowshoe field trip along with classroom instruction.  The growing success of the program can largely be attributed to the interest and support of local teachers and the help offered Refuge staff by a Student Conservation Association intern.
