a Rank order by total enplaned passengers on large
certificated U.S. air carriers (Majors, Nationals, Large Regionals, and
Medium Regionals), scheduled and nonscheduled operations, at all airports
served within the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and other U.S. areas
designated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
b The total for the top 50
airports will not sum from the individual airports because some top 50
airports in 2006 were not in the top 50 in the earlier years.
NOTE
Large
certificated air carriers hold Certificates of Public Convenience and
Necessity issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation authorizing the
performance of air transportation. Large certificated air carriers operate at
least one aircraft with seating capacity of more than 60 seats or a maximum
payload capacity of more than 18,000 pounds. Data for commuter,
small-certificated and foreign-flag air carriers are not included.
