Kenai National Wildlife Refuge now has binoculars for visitors to borrow for day use at the Refuge

Wildlife observation is one of the priority public uses on all 548 national wildlife refuges in the United States, and part of a specific purpose of Kenai National Wildlife Refuge's mandate to provide opportunities for wildlife-oriented recreation.  Kenai's wildlife viewing program just got a little more visible with the donation of 12 quality sets of binoculars that visitors may check out at the front desk at the headquarters’ in Soldotna.  The binoculars, donated by the Kenai Peninsula Wildlife Viewing Trail organizing group, via support from Conoco Phillips and Eagle Optics, are available for day use at the Refuge and can really enhance a visitor's experience on the adjacent Keen-Eye or Refuge Centennial Trails.  Wildlife commonly seen year-round include moose, red squirrels, spruce grouse, bald eagles, and gray jays, but there are dozens of other species to be on the look-out for including many migratory birds as well as mammals from the tiny shrew to the not-so-tiny brown bear.  Stop by the Refuge headquarters next time you are in Soldotna and see what you can see!
