UST/LUST Program Status In Maine

Maine was granted state program approval (SPA) in 1996. All six states in Region 1 have approved programs. Region 1 was the second Region to have all of its states achieve SPA.

Number of confirmed releases 2,443 (national total: 479,817)
Number of cleanups completed 2,403 (national total: 377,019)
Number of cleanups in backlog to be completed 40 (national total: 102,798)

Percent of facilities in significant operational compliance with:
Release prevention requirements 84%
Release detection requirements 64%
Both prevention and release detection requirements 54%
