Forest Receives
Off-Highway Vehicle Program Grants
Thanks to
many partners and supporters of the Mendocino National
Forest Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) program, the State of
California Department of Parks and Recreation and the Off-Highway
Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission recently approved grants
for over $1 million of funding to continue to provide the
public with outstanding OHV recreation opportunities on
the forest.

Travel Management Decisions Regarding Motorized Vehicle Route Designations Announced
Mendocino National Forest has issued four decisions regarding four separate travel management proposals that are part of the route designation process.

Visitor Information Services Now Available In Red Bluff
The Grindstone Ranger District of the Mendocino National
Forest is changing the hours and locations for visitor information
services for Tehama County, beginning December 17 and continuing
until further notice.

Christmas Tree Permits Now Available at Upper Lake Ranger District
Upper Lake District Ranger Lee Johnson announced today that
the Upper Lake Ranger District Office will be open on two
weekends December 1 and 2 and December 8 and 9, 2007, for
the purpose of selling Christmas Tree Permits.

Christmas Tree Permits Available November 19
Personal use Christmas tree cutting permits for the Mendocino National Forest will go on sale at the district offices and the headquarters office in Willows, beginning Monday, November 19 through December 14.

Chico Woman Named New Recreation Officer
Chico resident Tricia Christofferson has been named the new
Recreation Officer for the Mendocino National Forest, Forest
Service officials announced today. She will begin her new
position on October 28.

Fall Burning Season Begins
As part of a continuing program to help protect communities and natural resources from wildfires by reducing hazardous fuels, improve wildlife habitat and improve forest health, the Mendocino National Forest is beginning its fall prescribed burning.

Discarded Cigarette Starts Small Fire In Forest
Firefighters quickly extinguished a small wildfire Monday, on the Mendocino National Forest on Shepherd Ridge in Glenn County, that was caused by a cigarette discarded by unknown persons.

Firefighters Quickly Contain 50-Acre Fire In Lake County
The Forest Service reported that firefighters were able to contain a 50-acre wildland fire on the Mendocino National Forest in Lake County.

Yolla Bolly Complex 100% Contained
The Yolla Bolly Complex was 100% contained Friday evening,
September 7. Fire crews were able to stop the complex that
started August 29th at 140 acres.

Location Changes For Nome Cult Trail Commemoration September 8 In Paskenta
On Saturday, September 8, the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians will sponsor a traditional Native American cultural gathering in Paskenta to commemorate the 144th anniversary of the Nome Cult Trail, the forced relocation of Indians from Chico across what is now the Mendocino National Forest to Round Valley in 1863.

Firefighters Make Good Progress On Yolla Bolly Complex
Firefighters made good progress Thursday, reaching 20 percent containment on the Yolla Bolly Complex in the Mendocino National Forest. Firefighters were aided by airtankers dropping retardant and helicopters dropping water on hot spots while they continued to construct line around several fires.
