KENAI: Fire Partners Review Another Successful Year
Region 7, December 5, 2007
The Kenai Forest, Wildland Fire and Fuels Management Coordinating Committee, also known as the Kenai "All Hands--All Lands" group met December 5 to review their 2007 accomplishments.  The group reported 3,522 acres treated, up 53% from 2,292 acres treated in 2006.  The treatments reduce wildfire risk using mechanical removal, prescribed fire, fuel break development, and similar means.  Additionally, efforts are underway to develop seven “Community Wildfire Protection Plans” covering 12 area communities.  The interagency effort includes Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Chugach National Forest, Alaska Division of Forestry, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, and Kenai Fjords National Park.
