File/Patent Application contains classification
information for all patent applications
published by the US Patent and Trademark
Office. This file is updated every two months
and is available 6 times a year.
Patent Application Sequence ON-LINE (FTP) Master Classification
File/Patent Grant
The Patent Master Classification File (MCF) contains patent numbers and their current classifications, i.e., the classes and subclasses that all patents are assigned by the patent examining corps. There are approximately 450 main divisions of technology in the MCF, called classes, which are broken into approximately 150,000 subdivisions, called subclasses. The file is provided in two sequences, by patent number with current classification, or by classification with all the patent numbers included in that classification. The MCF is completely updated every two months and contains all patents issued since 1790 with their current classifications. Price is for an annual subscription.
