Mt St Helens in the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington State is the most recent volcano to erupt in t

he USA, killing 57 people and many animals and fish as well as great destruction to huge forests, rivers and lakes. This photo was taken in the 1960s showing one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the world, the famous beauty of Spirit Lake. Spirit Lake's beauty is now just a memory, having been destroyed by the May 1980 eruption.
