Mission
To increase financing of U.S. renewable energy and environmental exports in order to support the goals outlined below and create and sustain U.S. jobs.
Goals
- Help U.S. companies in the renewable energy and environmental technology sectors sustain and create jobs
- Strengthen the global competitiveness of U.S. renewable energy and environmental companies
- Support U.S. government renewable energy goals
- Enable emerging markets to develop their economies in environmentally responsible ways by facilitating access to U.S. renewable and environmental technology
Note:
Ex-Im Bank is mandated by Congress to support environmental and renewable energy exports. Section 11(b) of the Charter of the Bank states that “the Bank shall encourage the use of its programs to support the export of goods and services that have beneficial effects on the environment or mitigate potential adverse environmental effects…” Further, Section 2(b) (1) (K) addresses renewable energy, stating that “The Bank shall promote the export of goods and services related to renewable energy sources.” The 2006 Reauthorization Act for the Bank stipulated that it was the sense of Congress that the Bank should establish an Office of Renewable Energy Promotion. As the majority of environmental and renewable energy companies are small businesses, expanding financing to these companies also helps to fulfill the Charter’s requirement that the Bank support SME’s (small and medium enterprises).
