The bar graph shows the age-adjusted prevalence of overweight or obesity (defined as having a Body Mass Index of 25 or greater) in selected groups during 1988 to 1994. The source of the data is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

For non-Hispanic whites, 62 percent of men and 47 percent of women were overweight or obese.

For non-Hispanic blacks, 58 percent of men and 69 percent of women were overweight or obese.

For Mexican Americans, 69 percent of men and 70 percent of women were overweight or obese.
