MEMORANDUM

TO:                         Designated Agency Ethics Officials
FROM:                   Joseph E. Gangloff, Deputy Director for Agency Programs
SUBJECT:              2006 Ethics Official Survey

The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) is about to launch a new electronic survey - the 2006 Ethics Official Survey.  The purpose of this survey is to provide OGE with insights into the needs and perceptions of executive branch agency ethics officials.  The information gathered will help OGE develop program priorities and focus its resources.  It will also enhance OGE's ability to more closely integrate its goals with the needs of agency ethics officials.

In the next few weeks, survey invitations will be e-mailed to the Designated Agency Ethics Official (DAEO), Alternate DAEO, and agency ethics contact in every executive branch agency.  Because of the small survey population (under 300 people), in order to ensure that the results represent the views of ethics officials in every executive branch agency, it is important that every ethics official invited to participate in the survey does so.  Completion of the survey is voluntary; however, every invited participant is encouraged to respond to make the survey a success.  Survey responses will be anonymous and none of the information supplied will be associated with individuals or individual agencies.

OGE has contracted with Raosoft, Inc. to administer the survey.  It will be administered through a special Web site which will be available from late September until late October 2006 (4 weeks only) to record responses.  Survey administration dates and participation instructions will be included in the survey invitation.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Phyllis Hoffer at 202-482-9247 or by e-mail at pahoffer@oge.gov.
