SUBJECT:       Working Group Begins Planning Conference on the Ethical Implications of Emergency Response

At the January 25th meeting of the Working Group on the Ethical Implications of Emergency Response, the Office of Government Ethics circulated a draft agenda for a proposed 2-day conference on the Ethical Implications of Emergency Response to be held at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission here in Washington, DC, beginning on March 21st.  The following topics were proposed and discussed for possible inclusion in the agenda: emergency response teams that work, lessons learned from first responders, Public Health Service authorities and the role they play, the National Response Plan, coordinating with outside organizations, and a special session with OPM & GSA to discuss issues of concern.

A revised draft agenda will be available in the next few weeks. In the interim, if anyone has any suggestions for panel or plenary sessions, speakers or panel participants, or any other useful input, please email your suggestions either to Trish Zemple at pczemple@oge.gov or to Cheryl at clkanepi@oge.gov.

In addition to conference planning, the Working Group also received copies of the draft responses to the frequently asked questions. A small working group has begun reviewing the responses and will develop a final document.  All are welcome to review the responses and provide comments to the small working group.  Please send your comments to Cheryl Kane-Piasecki at clkanepi@oge.gov

The next meeting of the Working Group is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1st beginning at 9:30.   The meeting will be held at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, located at 888 First Street, NE.  We will send a notice of this meeting with a request for RSVP within the next two weeks.
