Bioethicist
National Children’s Study
Dr. Slutsman joined the National Children’s Study Program Office to serve as a bioethicist. She provides guidance on regulatory, policy, and ethical issues related to the protection of human subjects in the Study. She has extensive experience in health policy analysis related to research ethics. Prior to joining the National Children’s Study, Dr. Slutsman worked as a staff member in the NIH Office of Human Subjects Research, which oversees the ethical conduct of research in the NIH intramural research program.
Dr. Slutsman earned her PhD in Health Policy and Management with a concentration in bioethics from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the ethics of public health and cancer prevention at the National Cancer Institute. She has conducted empirical bioethics research in a number of areas. Her current research interests include parental decision making in studies involving children, approaches to return of findings in epidemiologic research, and assessment of the IRB research review process.
