The extreme range in elevation in the Gila National Forest and the many corresponding vegetation types provide for a diverse fauna which includes 30 species of fish, 11 species of amphibians, 44 species of reptiles, and 84 species of mammals. The relative abundance of the species listed in this website ranges from common to rare to extipated and includes species listed as of endangered, threatened, or sensitive status according to the federal government.
