MEMORANDUM
TO: Designated Agency Ethics Officials
FROM: Stephen D. Potts
Director
SUBJECT: Counseling Departing Employees
On Monday, June 26, 2000, the Office of Government Ethics
(OGE) will hold a training session devoted to the ethics rules that
apply to employees who are leaving Government for employment in the
private sector. The session will focus on the rules that govern
seeking employment (18 U.S.C. § 208) and post-employment (18 U.S.C.
§ 207), as well as Executive Order 12834. Three OGE attorneys will
be making presentations on these topics, and there will be an
opportunity for questions. The session will be held in the
Amphitheater of the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) at
1700 G Street, NW., Washington, DC 20552 at 2:00 p.m.
This session is designed to be a refresher of the relevant
rules that apply to someone leaving Government service,
particularly during a change of Administrations. It is not
intended to address unusually arcane issues or questions that are
unique to specific agencies. It should be useful especially for
ethics officials who ordinarily do not have a large volume of
seeking and post-employment questions. However, ethics officials
from all agencies are welcome and undoubtedly will find aspects of
the program informative.
Advance registration is required. Each person planning to
attend must register by faxing a completed registration form
(attached) to OGE not later than June 20. Registration will be
handled on a first-come basis. Please note, seating is limited to
the first 125 registrants. Telephone or e-mail registrations will
not be accepted. Please fax completed registration forms to:
Marilyn Bennett, Program Analyst
Fax Number: 202-208-8037
OGE will confirm each registration by return fax as soon as
possible before the session date. Please bring your Government ID
with you to enter the OTS building.
We look forward to seeing you on June 26.
