KENAI: CommunityDiscusses Winter Survival of Songbirds
Alaska Region, December 11, 2007
Print Friendly Version

In front of a packed crowd at the Kenai River Center on December 11, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Biological Technician Todd Eskelin presented information on wintering birds in the area.  The presentation focused primarily on the physiology and adaptations that permit smaller songbirds to survive harsh Alaska winters.  Eskelin also presented a slide show on birds that commonly winter in the Central Kenai Peninsula.  The photos were designed to help fledging birders with their identification skills if they wish to participate in the upcoming annual Christmas bird count.  The presentation was part of a winter speaker series sponsored by the Kenai Watershed Forum and the Kenai River Center.  Next month's topic titled "Climate Change on the Kenai" will include information about the Refuge and adjacent areas.  For more information on the winter speaker series, call the Kenai River Center at (907) 260-4882.
