Stream Watch volunteers provide invaluable conservation assistance along the Russian and Kenai Rivers each summer to the Chugach National Forest and Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

The Stream Watch Program is a group of volunteers dedicated to furthering conservation efforts along the Kenai and Russian Rivers, an area managed by Chugach National Forest and Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.  Over the last eight years volunteers have worked to educate the public about reducing their impact to stream banks in areas they fish as well as contributing labor for habitat protection projects and litter control.  In 2007 thirty-one volunteers worked 443 hours along the Russian River with 7 visits to the Refuge to water plants, gather trash, contact anglers, and mend fencing that protects vegetation and cultural sites.  The program is supported by the Kenai River Sportfishing Association, Alaska Recreation Management, Alaska State Parks, and the cadre of volunteers.  With over 100,000 visitors to the area each summer, Stream Watch volunteers provide valuable assistance to the Forest and Refuge in outreach and on-the-ground conservation actions.
