Over 150 students at Bristol Bay School were treated on Friday, May 18th to a presentation by volunteers from the Bird Treatment & Learning Center. The presentations were planned and sponsored by the Becharof and Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuges. Presentations were about and included a live great horned owl and a merlin. Students learned about raptors and the unique traits of both species. On Saturday, May 19th, presentations were also given at King Salmon Visitor Center. Approximately 60 people came to the presentations to learn about the birds. Several May activities, including the live bird presentations, had an emphasis on birds to celebrate and educate residents about birds and migration. April and May are the months when birds return to the Alaska Peninsula.
