KENAI: Arrest Follows Assault on Refuge Officer
Alaska Region, May 15, 2007
Print Friendly Version
A Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Officer discovered a driver with drug paraphernalia parked on the Refuge on April 28.   The driver refused to exit the vehicle when asked, placed the vehicle in gear, and drug the officer a short distance.  the officer then radioed for assistance and followed the fleeing vehicle.  Both the Refuge Officer and assisting Alaska State Trooper had to take evasive actions to avoid collisions as the suspect tried to escape.  Ultimately the pursuit ended after the suspect drove over a spike strip which flattened three of his four tires.  The 67 year old driver was arrested and charged with felony eluding, assault, theft, and criminal mischief.
