Snowshoe travel means fun at Kenai National Wildlife Refuge's Winter Fun Day
Snowshoe travel means fun at Kenai National Wildlife Refuge's Winter Fun Day

Over 60 local residents participated in Kenai National Wildlife Refuge's Winter Fun Day on February 3, 2007.  It was a gorgeous day with blue sky, sunshine, fresh snow, and lots of fun!  Four inside and two outside learning stations were available along with a craft table.  Informational topics and activities centered around snowflakes, animals blending in with their environment, birds in winter, what animals do to keep warm during the coldest times of year, and Native Alaskans’ winter hunting techniques.  The Andrew Berg historical cabin was open and staffed by local volunteers who interpreted the winter activities Mr. Berg was involved in while living in the cabin over 70 years ago.  A movie, snowball toss, making of refrigerator magnet mittens, snacks and hot drinks, plus snowshoe instruction and guided hikes rounded out the day.
