Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, and Refuge Manager Robin West, were recognized recently for accomplishments in hunter education programs for young hunters

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge was recognized recently for its support of hunter education programs on the Kenai Peninsula.  The award came from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game at an annual meeting to review the program and schedule next year's activities.  The Refuge has seven staff members who volunteer as instructors for basic hunter education or bowhunter education courses.  The Refuge also provides facilities to the community for both classroom and field activities.  Additionally, the Refuge had a 300 percent increase in the number of students that completed a hunter education program at the Refuge in 2006 compared to 2005.  Refuge Manager Robin West was also recognized as the local volunteer instructor of the year for individually leading the most courses in the area in 2006.
