The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge cabin crew and other staff completed visits and maintenance work on all public use and historic cabins in the summer of 2006, marking near complete implementation of the Refuge's Cabin Management Plan.  To finish the plan, the Refuge may build one or two additional structures and will conduct routine maintenance as future funding allows.  In August 2006, the Refuge can boast of having eleven public use reservation cabins, two public use first-come-first serve cabins, and five historical cabins all in top shape.  Public use of the reservation cabins has increased in the second year of the cabin program and as of August 17 the reservation cabins have been rented 188 times by 455 people for a total of 360 (cabin use) nights in 2006.  The average stay for most cabin users is 2.2 nights.  For more information on Kenai cabins go to http://kenai.fws.gov/cabin.htm.
