In 2004, the "Tetlin Refuge Moose School Science Project" started with 5 satellite marked cow moose.  This project incorporates real-time satellite data from marked moose into local elementary, middle, and high school curriculums developed by the Refuge's education coordinator.  Now, a new partnership with "Signals of Spring" will allow the data collected from Tetlin's marked moose to be used in classrooms across the Nation.  “Signals of Spring” is an innovative, award-winning educational program of the U.S. Satellite Laboratory.  Initially funded by NASA in 1999, students and teachers throughout the United States use real-time satellite data from marked animals to weave together science, technology, math, political, and social concepts.  Students complete interdisciplinary studies of animal movements and become experts on the behavior of their species, using the Internet to study its appearance, life history, habitat, and interactions with humans.  This new partnership will allow not only our local students to benefit from this project, but also students across the country.
