ALASKA PENINSULA/ BECHAROF:Officer assists in Katrina Disaster Relief
Alaska Region, November 14, 2005
Print Friendly Version

Alaska Peninsula/Becharof National Wildlife Refuge Law Enforcement Officer Dave Cox responded to the request to provide help to those in hurricane damaged areas following hurricane Katrina and Wilma.  For three weeks, Officer Cox  provided security to American Red Cross facilities and donations.  This assignment was arduous and potentially dangerous due to the looting, shootings, and gang-related activity in the area. Officer Cox was one of many Refuge Officers who helped thousands of homeless people who found themselves without food, water and basic necessities.  Upon returning home, Officer Cox stated that he had a new appreciation for home and Alaska.
