KENAI: New Communications System
Alaska Region, October 1, 2004
Print Friendly Version
As of October 1, 2004, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has switched over to a new radio communications program supported by four repeaters, three base stations, 50 mobile radios, and 73 portable radios. This new digital system complies with all new government regulations and standards and will provide dependable communications over 90 percent of the Refuge's two million acres. The radio system is completely compatible with all State and emergency service systems which now allow Refuge staff to communicate better with other agencies during search and rescue events, wildfires, or other emergency incidents.
