KENAI: Youth Crew Finish Productive Summer
Alaska Region, August 6, 2004
Print Friendly Version
The Youth Conservation Corp (YCC) finished their summer's work at Kenai National Wildlife Refuge August 6, 2004. The YCC crew consisted of seven local high school students ages 15 to 17. Beginning in June, YCCers completed a wide range of Refuge projects including painting, brush clearing, trail maintenance, camp site clean up, and habitat protection. They also worked on the Keen Eye Trail, Visitor Contact Station, Outdoor Education Center, Engineer Lake Campground, Ski Hill Road, the Swanson River Canoe System, Russian River access area, Hidden Creek Trail, and Moose Research Center. In addition to Refuge maintenance and facilities projects, YCCers participated in varied safety and skills training. The Kenai Refuge YCC program completes valuable public lands management work while exposing local youth to conservation career opportunities.
