TOGIAK: "Bristol Bay Field Notes" records 200th program

Bristol Bay Field Notes just reached a new milestone, recently recording its 200th program. Weekly since March 2000, radio station listeners in southwest Alaska have heard a radio show called Bristol Bay Field Notes, produced by Togiak National Wildlife Refuge staff members. Each Bristol Bay Field Notes show is three to five minutes long, airs three times a week at prescribed times, and is designed to educate the public about the natural world in the Bristol Bay area. The shows reach a wide-ranging listening audience, as KDLG AM 670 serves 45 Alaskan villages, approximately 16,000 residents, and a listening area of 64,200 square miles.

Shows have been aired relating to birds, fish, mammals, insects, amphibians, plants, forests, stream characteristics, oceans, the environment, Eskimo tales, genetic diversity, and refuge programs. Bristol Bay Field Notes has been a success in southwest Alaska and can be a model for other U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service offices nationwide.
