Your One-Stop Source for National Highway Specifications

Since 2003, the National Highway Specifications Web site
(NHSW) has provided users with a fully searchable, electronic library of
information on highway construction specifications for all 50 States, Puerto
Rico, the District of Columbia, and Federal Lands and Highways. "As a one-stop
source for specification information, the Web site has saved users time and
money, while improving practices and promoting higher quality in construction
end products," says Ken Jacoby of the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA)
Office of Asset Management.
FHWA Seeks Comments on Creation of National Tunnel Inspection Standards
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is soliciting
comments on the creation of a regulation that would establish National Tunnel
Inspection Standards (NTIS). FHWA estimates that there are more than 300
highway tunnels in the United States. The NTIS would set minimum tunnel
inspection standards that would apply to all Federal-aid highway tunnels on
public roads.
New Transportation Workforce Training Available Online
Two new free Web-based training opportunities are available
from the Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council (TCCC), in partnership
with the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) National Highway Institute
(NHI). The TCCC's members include representatives from FHWA, NHI, regional
State training and certification groups, several American Association of State
Highway and Transportation Officials subcommittees, and industry associations.
Putting the Pieces Together at the Eighth National Conference on Transportation Asset Management
Learn more about "Putting the Asset Management Pieces
Together" at the Eighth National Conference on Transportation Asset Management,
scheduled for October 19–21, 2009, in Portland, Oregon. The conference will be
hosted by the Transportation Research Board (TRB), with support from the
Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Office of Asset Management, Office of
Safety, and Office of Pavement Technology.
Real Solutions to Today's Transportation Challenges
A new monthly seminar series offered online by the Federal
Highway Administration's (FHWA) National Highway Institute (NHI) features guest
speakers discussing challenges they have faced in the field and the innovative
solutions used to address those challenges. The free Real Solutions Seminar
Series also offers participants the opportunity to ask questions during the
seminars.
