nonmelanoma carcinoma in situ (non-MEH-luh-NOH-muh KAR-sih-NOH-muh in SY-too)

 Abnormal cells are found in the squamous cell or basal cell layer of the epidermis (outer layer of skin). These abnormal cells may become cancer and spread into nearby normal tissue. Also called stage 0 nonmelanoma skin carcinoma in situ.
