Congestion

BTS is looking at several aspects of congestion and vehicle travel.  Both passenger and freight travel, for various modes, are being examined.  Work includes identification of data sources, analyzing those data for useful insights, and providing measures of congestion and vehicle travel. Examples of current work are:

• Seasonal adjustment of monthly highway congestion data 
• Trending and seasonal adjustment of vehicle miles traveled
• Improved estimates of freight ton-miles .
• Rail freight performance measures
