Volunteer for the Alaska Region of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service:

You Can:

  • Camp for 3 months on a remote Aleutian island surveying sea birds.
  • Help run the annual Salmon Camp for kids at Kodiak NWR.
  • Cut brush on a trail at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.
  • Meet people from around the world as a Campground Host at Tetlin NWR.
  • Serve as a biological field assistant in a remote field camp at Innoko NWR.
  • Greet visitors at the new state-of-the-art Islands and Ocean Visitor Center.

Current Volunteer Opportunities in the Alaska Region

Opportunities for couples traveling by RV are currently available at AK Maritime NWR, Kenai NWR, and Tetlin NWR. See the above link for more information.

Some volunteer positions require a Volunteer Application Form.(pdf) Print this form and mail it to the appropriate contact on the Volunteer Opportunities Table. Every volunteer must also complete a Volunteer Agreement (pdf) form before starting volunteer service. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a signed Parental Approval form (pdf) in addition to a signed Volunteer Agreement.
