01/09/09 - New Scientist - Invention: Recycled trash construction materials
The amount of waste generated by our society is mind-boggling. Each day, families, business and other organisations produce plastic and food waste in such quantities that landfill space is rapidly running out. Now Lawrence Reaveley, a civil engineer at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, has come up with a scheme that could reuse some of this excess trash.

As noted, article originally ran in Wall Street Journal. The study by U researchers was also featured in an article in the Salt Lake Tribune.

After more than 12 years, a $46 million project has yielded remarkable technology. Also featured in the Deseret News.
01/06/09 - United Press International - Colorful mice help track hantavirus The University of Utah scientists used fluorescent pink, blue, green, yellow and orange talcum powder to track wild mice to learn which ones fought or mated with others the most frequently and therefore were most to blame for transmitting the disease. This research was covered in many different national and international news outlets, including Genetic Engineering News, Environment News Service, LiveScience.com (NY), MarketWatch, ScienceDaily, Insciences Organisation (Switzerland), Popular Science, Forbes (NY), Washington Post, innovations report (Germany), the Salt Lake Tribune, and others.
