Foreign Disaster Assistance

A smiling aid worker poses with children in an assisted country.

USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) provides non-food humanitarian assistance and coordinates the U.S. Government response to natural and manmade disasters in foreign countries. USAID/OFDA provides humanitarian assistance largely through grants to Private Voluntary Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, and International Organizations. For more information on the proposal review and award process, please go to OFDA's Guidelines for Proposals and Reporting, found on the website below. In addition to accepting unsolicited proposals after a disaster is declared, OFDA posts Annual Program Statements (APS) to which an organization can apply for funding at www.fedgrants.gov. An APS generates competition for new awards in areas where USAID/OFDA wants to support a variety of approaches to meet its mandate of saving lives, alleviating suffering, and reducing the economic impact of disasters.
