meningeal carcinomatosis (meh-NIN-jee-ul KAR-sih-NOH-muh-TOH-sis)

 Cancer that has spread from the original (primary) tumor to the meninges (thin layers of tissue that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord). The cancer causes inflammation of the meninges. Also called carcinomatous meningitis, leptomeningeal cancer, leptomeningeal carcinoma, leptomeningeal metastasis, meningeal metastasis, and neoplastic meningitis.
