2009 Shreveport Diversity Workshop

On Friday August 14th, the Shreveport Weather Forecast Office hosted a Diversity and Leadership Conference at Independence Stadium on the Main Suite Level. There were 32 participants from various WFOs in Southern Region in attendance, as well as our own Regional Director Bill Proenza.
Mr. Proenza kicked off the conference sessions by sharing the importance of diversity and leadership development in our region. He also expressed these key points that he lives by as a leader:
1. Follow the Regulations
2. Do what is right
3. Tell the truth
4. Do it respectfully
Regional awards of appreciation were given to the five of the Special Emphasis Program Managers � Alana McCants, Jose Villescaz, Latrice Maxie, Ray Fagen, and Gina Tillis-Nash - who had completed there terms. Armando Garza, the Regional Chairperson personally thanked and gave high accolades to each committee member for helping to bring the EEODIAC program this far. He also stressed that there is a lot more work to be done, especially with leaders taking a more proactive role in our inclusion goals.
The PowerPoint Presentations that were used are located in the Sharepoint server at the WFO SHV site under Office Forms. The workshop presentations will be used by the selected WFO Centers of Excellent in Diversity and Leadership training in the near future. This method of sharing the training was developed in order to reach more of our workforce in the Southern Region and the Regional Director highly recommends that offices participate in one of these training opportunities in your areas.
