USAID touches individuals and communities all across Guinea. Its strategic focus is on advancing democratic values and promoting good governance that brings improved health, education and other services to the Guinean people. USAID is engaged in maternal and child health, playing a major role in reducing the mortality rate of mothers and children.
Programs also help to prevent female genital cutting and the practice of forced and early marriages, and assist women with fistula receive the care they need. USAID’s support for Guinea also includes programs aimed at preventing trafficking in persons, increasing agricultural production, improving economic conditions for farmers, and promoting responsible management of natural resources. U.S. Ambassador to Guinea Phillip Carter III stated, “The wealth of Guinea does not rest in its minerals but in its people.” By focusing on democratic values and good governance that meets the needs of the people, USAID Guinea is a leading partner in developing Guinea’s human potential.
