The National Park Service's mission is to preserve the location, resources, and stories associated with the military, political, and cultural events that occurred at the site of Fort Stanwix and to provide opportunities for visit or understanding and appreciation of these events.
Did You Know?
Construction of the Erie Canal began near Rome, NY after the firt ceremonial shovel full of earth was turned on July 4, 1817.
This became the waterway that would soon overtake the Oneida Carry, only a few miles away from the ruins of Fort Stanwix.
