USGS Groundwater Data

The U.S. Geological Survey provides unbiased, timely, and relevant data on the groundwater resources of the Nation:

Groundwater Levels

USGS Groundwater Watch

[Map: USGS Ground-Water Watch] The Groundwater Watch web sites group related wells and data from National Water Information System (NWIS) active well networks and provide basic statistics about the water-level data. Networks include the Active Groundwater Level Network, the Climate Response Network, and the Real-Time Groundwater Level Network.

USGS Online Groundwater Data (NWIS)

[Image: Sample graph of ground-water levels.] The National Water Information System (NWIS) groundwater database consists of more than 850,000 records of wells, springs, test holes, tunnels, drains, and excavations in the United States.

USGS Annual Water Data Reports

[Image: Sample map view from annual water data mapper] Water resources data are published annually. These archival products supplement direct access to current and historical water data provided by NWISWeb.

Aquifers

National Aquifer Code Reference List

The National Aquifer Code Reference List provides the National Water Information System (NWIS) codes used for the principal U.S. aquifers and information about the aquifers.

Ground Water Atlas of the U.S.

[Map: Map of U.S. principal aquifers] The Ground Water Atlas of the U.S. provides a summary of the most important information available for each principal aquifer.

National Atlas - Aquifers

National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program

The National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) provides accurate geologic maps and three-dimensional framework models that help to sustain and improve the quality of life and economic vitality of the Nation and to mitigate natural hazards.

Water Use

Water Use in the U.S.

[Map: Map of U.S. water use data in 2000] The USGS compiles water-use information aggregated at the county, state, and national levels. Every five years, data at the county level are compiled into a national water-use data system and state-level data are published in a national circular.

Groundwater Quality Data

USGS Water-Quality Data for the Nation - National Water Information System (NWIS)

The USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) water-quality database is a compilation of over 4.4 million historical water quality analyses across the Nation.

USGS Water Quality Data

The USGS collects, analyzes, archives, and disseminates data and information describing the quality of the Nation's surface-water and groundwater resources. Visit the USGS Water-Quality Information web site to find about more about what USGS water-quality data are available.

Water-Quality Web Services

Web services allow for the automated sharing of USGS and USEPA water-quality monitoring data.
