Mandatory Reporting of Methyl Bromide Sales
Methyl bromide sales must be reported
By February 15 of each year, all methyl bromide distributors and applicators must report their sales information for the previous year to EPA.
What Must I Report?
Distributors and applicators must report the amounts of methyl bromide that were:
- Bought
- Sold for each critical use
- Owned for pre-plant and post-harvest use
- Held on behalf of another entity for pre-plant and post-harvest use
Why Report?
1. It’s the law.
Failure to report methyl bromide is a violation of the Clean Air Act, and EPA can take enforcement.
2. It makes more methyl bromide available for future use.
- EPA reduces the amount of each year’s new production by the “carryover” amount from a previous year.
- The “carryover” amount is the amount of new production, minus the amount of sales reported to EPA.
- So every sale that is not reported is an amount that’s not available in a later year.
