Staff from the Lower Great Lakes Fishery Resources Office conducted a three day survey of Lake Erie from July 30-August 1, 2007.  The objective of the survey was to perform early detection monitoring for Asian carp (bighead and silver) in the western basin, where individual bighead carp were reported in 2000 and 2002.  Electrofishing was performed at eleven transects in Sandusky Bay and eight transects in Toledo, totaling 92 minutes of sampling effort covering an area of 15 square miles.  No Asian carp were collected or observed, however catches included bigmouth and smallmouth buffalo, gizzard shad, alewife, white bass, common carp, shorthead redhorse, quillback, freshwater drum, white and yellow perch, goldfish, yellow bullhead, pumpkinseed, emerald shiner, and channel catfish.
