Press Room: Susitna Community Earth Day Celebration
on April 22

The sixth annual Susitna Community Earth Day Celebration will take place on Saturday, April 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Upper Susitna Senior Center, located at Mile 98.5 on the Parks Highway, just south of the junction with the Talkeetna Spur Road. This year’s theme is “Sharing Solutions for a Sustainable World.”

Volunteers from the local communities, representatives from area organizations, and staff from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Upper Susitna Soil and Water Conservation District, and the National Park Service will offer a wide variety of exhibits, hands-on activities, and opportunities to learn about sustainable living practices, water quality, invasive plant species, wildland fire safety, and many other topics. Event participants will have the opportunity to recycle and reuse in a variety of ways, including a recycled art contest and a book, clothing, and sports gear exchange.

In addition, the event will showcase presentations by Verna Pratt, from the Alaska Native Plant Society, and the Bird Treatment and Learning Center in Anchorage, who will be showing two owls. There will be plenty of children’s activities, including quests and an art table.
