The environmental assessment (EA) for the proposed construction of a hard-sided cabin to replace and upgrade the Silver Salmon Creek ranger facilities on the coast of Lake Clark National Park and Preserve is now available for review. There is also a proposal to build a public toilet near the ranger facility. Visitation to this area of Lake Clark National Park and Preserve has increased over 44% over the last three years. "Addressing this increase in visitation at Silver Salmon Creek and having the facilities to support this use is important to us," said Superintendent Joel Hard. "We look forward to hearing input from the public on which of the alternatives in the proposed plan that they think will work best." The EA is available on the web at: http://parkplanning.nps.gov, select Lake Clark National Park and Preserve and then the Project Title, Silver Salmon Creek Ranger Cabin The comment period for the EA will extend 30 days, beginning April 29 and ending May 31, 2005. Please send written comments to: Attn: Colleen Matt, Natural Resources Coordinator Lake Clark National Park and Preserve 4230 University Drive, Suite 311 Anchorage, AK 99608-4626 Email: colleen_matt@nps.gov The EA was completed in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, and the regulations of the Council on Environmental Quality (40 CFR 1508.9).
